OUR PLAN

We are writing this blog for one reason and one reason only. To provide a vehicle to make it easier to remain in touch with our family and friends back home.

Our plan is simple. Depart our home port of Goderich, Ontario in the Summer of 2011. Cruise Georgian Bay and the North Channel of Lake Huron while visiting some of the ports and anchorages we have missed over the years. As well as revisiting some of our favourite haunts hopefully with some of our very good friends with whom we have cruised with many times before. All the while adding up the miles and gaining experience with our new trawler. Our first and only self imposed deadline is to be in the Chicago area around Labour Day. South of Chicago, weather and circumstances will guide us!

AUGUST 13,2011 - JOHN ISLAND, ONTARIO

It started raining in the middle of the night and except for a brief hour in the middle of the day, it continued past bed time that evening. When I was doing my laps around the boat, the rain appeared to increase in strength. But I was not alone for there was a pair of loon’s just yards away. Strange but one was stationed off of the bow and the other off of the stern both seemed to be sizing me up in some way or another. This is what we call a weather day for obvious reasons. All chores and activities were confined to indoors. Terri and I had a Sudoku tournament, reviewed charts and read books. I watched the second half of a movie called “Das Boot” Great movie if you like submarines and war pictures. There was no internet reception here so Terri could not connect to her work station and any blogging I did do was only in a very rough draft version. I even did a little fishing in the rain off of the swim platform that evening after diner but of course no luck. We finished off the evening with a movie of some kind and then early to bed. A quiet day indeed!
