OUR PLAN

We are writing this blog for one reason and one reason only. To provide a vehicle to make it easier to remain in touch with our family and friends back home.

Our plan is simple. Depart our home port of Goderich, Ontario in the Summer of 2011. Cruise Georgian Bay and the North Channel of Lake Huron while visiting some of the ports and anchorages we have missed over the years. As well as revisiting some of our favourite haunts hopefully with some of our very good friends with whom we have cruised with many times before. All the while adding up the miles and gaining experience with our new trawler. Our first and only self imposed deadline is to be in the Chicago area around Labour Day. South of Chicago, weather and circumstances will guide us!

AUGUST 12, 2011 - GORE BAY

Rick and Connie have asked us to breakfast with them today and we all meet 0900 hrs. They take us to the local golf course which does put on a very good meal. It is more than we can eat and the coffee is bottomless. We also meet up with another friend of Rick and Connie’s, Jim and Lori. As we are standing in line to pay the bill a young employee arrives and announces to the woman in the kitchen that someone has taken a direct hit in the face by a golf ball. The woman takes charge and orders the waitress to call 911 and she heads out to offer first aid. I start my stop watch and am flabbergasted to see that the ambulance has arrived after only 4 minutes. This is a great response time that many big cities would be envious of. On the way back to the boat Rick drives us to a lookout point that has a beautiful view of the marina and surrounding area. Rick and Connie are gracious and lend us their car and allow us to re-provision in style. And stock up we do. We bring back two carts of supplies for we are not sure when we will be able to supply next. In all probability it will be in Drummond Island, USA.

GORE BAY FARMER'S MARKET

RICK & CONNIE FROM DESTINY - SO MUCH FUN!

After a quick tour of the local farmers market we are headed for John Island. But not before Terri has drained me of my last $20. Thankfully there is a bank up the street where we can reload from the money tree.
