We entered
the harbour of Beaufort, NC after a long trek of 88 miles. We left Wrightsville Beach Marina at the
crack of dawn to catch the on-request bridge opening just before the mandatory
rush hour closure beginning at 0700 am.
There was another trawler that had called for an opening and we just
happened to be ready a few minutes later and the Bridge tender thankfully
waited for us to slip our lines and get through the same opening. Upon our approach to Beaufort Docks we
spotted a wild pony grazing at the beach at Carrot Island. There are a number of marinas in this
location and identifying the proper dock could be interesting, but the radio
operator and the dock hands at Beaufort Docks knew their stuff! The dock hands have been misaligned in some
of the reviews we read but we found them to be professional and effective. They were refreshing to say the least. There is a strong current and substantial tide
and we were appreciative of their advice allowing Terrmar to come to rest
safely at the floating docks.
