We left Norfolk at sunrise to take advantage of the best
weather window. The trend had been calm
early in the morning with the waves and wind picking up as the day progressed. We crossed Chesapeake Bay and arrived at our
destination, Cape Charles Town Harbor by early afternoon. The floating docks were near new but the
marina was open to the winds and Terrmar was rocking and rolling.
The next day we decided to take a chance and travel up the
eastern shore of Chesapeake Bay to Onancock, VA, again leaving early to avoid
the strong winds. We arrived at the
Onancock Wharf just as the skies opened and rain drenched us as we tied up and
secured the boat. The marina is small,
protected and peaceful, located a few miles up the Onancock Creek. The rain let up long enough for us to explore
the town, but continued the following day so we decided to stay put.
After 2 days weather looked OK so we untied the lines and
set off across Chesapeake Bay to Solomons Island, MD. As it turned out Spring Cove Marina was a
great choice to wait out Tropical Storm Andrea’s passing. We spent the days replenishing groceries and
sightseeing, making use of the marina’s shuttle golf cart and van.
