OUR PLAN

We are writing this blog for one reason and one reason only. To provide a vehicle to make it easier to remain in touch with our family and friends back home.

Our plan is simple. Depart our home port of Goderich, Ontario in the Summer of 2011. Cruise Georgian Bay and the North Channel of Lake Huron while visiting some of the ports and anchorages we have missed over the years. As well as revisiting some of our favourite haunts hopefully with some of our very good friends with whom we have cruised with many times before. All the while adding up the miles and gaining experience with our new trawler. Our first and only self imposed deadline is to be in the Chicago area around Labour Day. South of Chicago, weather and circumstances will guide us!

SEPTEMBER 4-10, 2011- CHICAGO, IL

We would spend 8 days in Chicago and it would be an extraordinary experience. Terri, our Social Administrator had picked out a different sight for us to see every day that we were here. We managed to see all of the major sights and some that just happened to be a good idea that day. Some of these include.
The Museum of Science and Industry where we spent an hour at the exhibit of the U-505. This is the real deal. A German U-boat that was captured off the coast of Africa by the US Navy during WW II.

Dinner on the 95th floor of the John Hancock Tower was truly a highlight for both Terri and I. Unfortunately we decided to travel without a camera tonight.
The Millennium Park was a cool park right in the middle of downtown Chicago. This is where we took in the Chicago Jazz Festival and the local attraction “The Bean” which oddly enough was a huge bean looking affair that you were supposed to see your reflection and take your picture. I am just guessing on the meaning as I never did understand the concept. Terri thought it was great. This as well as one of the largest Splash Pads in the world rounded out our park visit.

HMM! THE PRINT IS SO SMALL

I LOVE HER SMILE! OH AND THE PIZZA AS WELL

We had done a lot of walking in Chicago and my old bones felt it nightly. But I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. There was no other way to see the sites. We did take a lot of cabs and as Terri can attest to most cabby's were hard working people just trying to make a living. Some were born to try and take any advantage of the tourist and take them on a wild goose chase. We had many of the first and only two of the latter. Of course I am not just any tourist, and Mr. Cab driver now clearly understands this. lol
Following are random pics of our week in Chicago.
