Travelling from Sarasota along the
Intercostal Waterway to Venice, Fl. was very pleasant. We took our time and enjoyed the scenery
along the way. Once we had arrived in
Venice, we were glad to see brand new docks at an almost vacant marina. Too good to be true! Sonata had arrived a day earlier and filled
us in on the local news. Apparently
there was local opposition to the marina. After going to the expense, time and
trouble to add this clean, brand new facility, the residents from the neighbouring
trailer park complained that the new marina was obstructing their view of the
water – so everything is in limbo until the dispute is settled. Fortunately we were able to quietly pay our
docking fee to the local restaurant and spent a peaceful few days exploring the
town of Venice. We put the bikes to good
use, as all amenities were located on the opposite side of the bascule bridge
overpass. All that exercise called for a
bit of pampering, so we treated ourselves to a much needed pedicure. We practically had to drag Mark in the shop,
but he became a convert, especially when there was a manly pub right next door
after his toes were tickled pink!
