OUR PLAN

We are writing this blog for one reason and one reason only. To provide a vehicle to make it easier to remain in touch with our family and friends back home.

Our plan is simple. Depart our home port of Goderich, Ontario in the Summer of 2011. Cruise Georgian Bay and the North Channel of Lake Huron while visiting some of the ports and anchorages we have missed over the years. As well as revisiting some of our favourite haunts hopefully with some of our very good friends with whom we have cruised with many times before. All the while adding up the miles and gaining experience with our new trawler. Our first and only self imposed deadline is to be in the Chicago area around Labour Day. South of Chicago, weather and circumstances will guide us!

OCT 11-18,2011- GREEN TURTLE BAY, KY (second time)

I awoke this morning with a plan. The coal dust of Kentucky and Tennessee had not been kind to Terrmar. I had been contemplating getting the boat professionally washed and waxed for the last week or so.  There was such effort put into waxing in the spring that to let all of the wax wear off would have been insane. With Terri’s encouragement I was going to go for it. Neither she nor I had the time or desire to put forth this effort right now. A couple of days ago I had contacted the boat works department of Green Turtle Bay to enquire about the work being done here. Actually I had talked to them before we had left for Nashville and at the time they were too busy to even quote on the job. But I had returned here with a renewed vigor and a desire to talk to them in person rather than over the phone. Well I did just that and after a number of the staff had come to inspect the boat, a price was settled upon and the work began that very afternoon. They did a fantastic job and after about three days we had a boat that we could be proud of again.

HAPPY CAPTAIN

On the second day after our return here we had noticed that Smudge had not been herself. She seemed lethargic and always seemed to be scratching, licking or rubbing herself. Her ears appeared to be infected and as this was not the first time we had brought along some ointment with us from the Veterinarian back home. We started applying it and while it did appear to not be getting worse it wasn’t getting better. With the help of the staff at the marina who recommended a veterinarian in Calvert City arrangements were made for a vet visit. It was a walk-in clinic about an 45 minutes away so our two hour allotted time with the courtesy van didn’t leave too much time for error. Off we went, and found the vet’ location with only a small amount of geographical challenge. When we entered the office we were met with a receptionist with big hair. She asked all the pertinent questions and then motioned us towards a waiting room. We were then called into an examining room where another tech person did the preparatory examination. Soon, Dr. Roger Freeman, the vet entered the room and quickly started grilling Terri about symptoms. It was quickly decided with great apologies on the good Doctor’s part that Smudge was allergic to Kentucky. It appears that all of the pollen, ticks and fleas that reside in the grass had challenged Smudges anti-flea program. All though it was working the program was challenged and overwhelmed. Not to worry though as there is a shot for everything it seems and there was indeed a shot for this. Also we had to keep Smudge on the boat or at least off of the grass. Yikes, this puppy needs to run and this is not going to help. But we or rather Terri will persevere.

NOT FEELING SO WELL!

This weekend our girls and their families had decided to get together for a Wey Family Thanksgiving all be it one week after the fact. Terri and I were pleased at the effort that they had put into the weekend. They all arrived on the Friday and Saturday at Candice and Brad’s house and spent the weekend visiting. Our Granddaughter Lauren was also there and from what we hear she was the star and lapped up all of the attention that was cast her way.  On the Sunday they put together a feast that made Terri and I wish we were there. Of course Terri and I have taken a little bit of grief from our children for abandoning them to their own devices while we did our loop. Maybe they are getting used to it. Wait until they hear our plans for our post loop travels. Lol!

The rest of the week flew by and again we rented a Golf Cart for a tour of the town. We had done it all before so we returned the Golf Cart early for a small refund. We also took the courtesy car into Paducah for another trip to Wal-Mart and another stop at the local beer store. It wasn’t planned this way but Wall-mart had just started modeling their beer display the day before. When they remodel the beer they ship all of the beer to other stores not really worried about customers and their allotted time with courtesy vans.  Green Turtle Bay had been very nice to us and we had a blast but we were ready to leave.
GO FIGURE A GREEN TURTLE IN GREEN TURTLE BAY

The next morning we noticed that Frank and Kathy or at least Rory their dog had returned from their thanksgiving celebrations in Canada. Only Rory was available to talk, as Frank and Kathy were MIA. We hoped they would be leaving soon and catching up with us.   When the fuel dock opened we moved the short distance to it and took on 252 gal of diesel and pumped out the head tank and then we were off to Paris Landing, another marina.
WE LEAVE SALTY PAWS WITH ONLY RORY ON BOARD. WHERE ARE FRANK AND CATHY?

WE LEAVE GREEN TURTLE BAY AGAIN FOR THE LAST TIME

THE WIND IS BRISK AND THE TOWS ARE PUSHING HARD
