Today would be a short sailing day as we had only 21 NM to cover. We had reservations for dockage so we weren’t too worried. We were also forewarned that there was a Tri-State Sailboat race scheduled for this weekend. That meant that there would be 150 sailboats descending upon this little city this weekend. This shouldn’t bother us as we expected to be gone and bound for Chicago in a day or two. There was something unusual about this Marina other than the fact that it was a municipal facility and not a state marina. It appears that the staff had been instructed to not help people dock or monitor the VHF radio or even acknowledge a visitors presence until they touchdown at the gas dock. They seem to hide behind trees or in the office waiting to see how you handle yourself. It doesn’t make sense but it is what it is. We are learning that this might be the norm and not the exception as we head further South. I did manage to talk to the staff later that day and they seemed so nice in all other ways. I asked the staff about the lack of a VHF radio on their part and they did show me that they did have one but it was too much of a bother. They might be out of earshot or outside or something. When in Rome…..

Today was a special day for Jerry and Jenny from Sweet Grass. They were celebrating their 48th wedding anniversary. They have invited fellow Loopers Charlie and Bonnie of Sonata as well as Terri and I to dinner to help them celebrate. As always the conversation and diner was both enjoyable and fun. I do hope that Jenny did receive a long service medal for her many years of service. Tomorrow Sweet Grass would make the crossing to Chicago. Sonata and Terrmar would wait another day.
